FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE LONDON NAVIGATOR BUS HERE: www.jamiemartindesign.co.uk This is the video I prepared for a presentation evening at the London Transport Museum on 18th March 2009. The “New Bus For London” competition winners were invited to reveal to the public how they arrived at their final design proposals. The competition was launched by London mayor Boris Johnson in summer 2008 to create a replacement for the classic Routemaster bus. It closed in September 2008, and winners were invited to an awards ceremony in Westminster on 19th December 2008. I was delighted to be awarded joint second place, behind winners Aston Martin and Copoco, and received £10000. More information can be found at TFL: tinyurl.com Created with Maxon Cinema 4D. It looks far too good to be allowed anywhere near some of London’s Streets. Those plush interiors wouldn’t last 5 mins!
But wouldn’t the technology used within the bus would have a too higher price tag within these economic times?
Nevertheless, what a good insight to the bus both inside and out.
Of course, the much loved Routemaster could never be replaceed. Too much nostalgic character, etc. That distinct smell inside. Nice wind-down windows and a long cord to ring the bell. DING DING.

WOW! TWO STAIRCASES AND THREE DOORS! What a revolution! not. Buses (PEASANT WAGONS) are shit shit shit. We need to invest in the railways (particularly high speed super-conducting) which are cleaner greener safer quicker etc. We invented the train and now Japan has trains that travel in excess of 300mph WHILE WE’RE LEFT WITH DATED 60′S RAILWAYS WITH NEXT TO NO LOCAL LINES – FORGET about peasant wagons – CAMPAIGN FOR THE LOCAL LINES TO BE REOPENED INSTEAD!!!

This isn’t the winner, fine, but the winner is just as bad! What a depressing country!

LOUSY DESIGN. & why the bright yellow handrails? Bus drivers mention the reflection in the front window, it impedes their view – they get used to it, they say – but why BRIGHT BLOODY YELLOW? The interior just looks cheap & nasty, no improvement!
This country can’t design anything nice. Public money down the drain, enriching the few. No one even bothers to ask the bus drivers what makes a safe bus for them & hence also safe for passengers & pedestrians.
About as attractive as a cream bun!

@jamiefmartin Ahhh, Ok, I see, I’ve seen the bus that is going to replace the Route Master, oh God, this design is so much better, 3 doors on that, WHY THREE!!!! And it looks nothing like the Route Master, Mate, you should’ve won. See, what worries me about your design is so much glass, idiots will destroy glass and vandalize, I’ve re watched the video, and I think that this bus is a lot better
#21 by jamiefmartin on January 9, 2012 - 9:11 am
@HMSDaring1 The competition stipulated that there would be a conductor on each bus to manage the passengers (as on the traditional Routemaster).

@jamiefmartin Hmm, i don’t really like the front, i think front should me more square, but the rest is beautiful, so how does the Oyster card system work, how does the driver know that everyone has payed

I think you should of won but you should be proud, even though you didn’t win!!!!
I must say, the winning design is a bit plain but you have to admit, it is not bad.
